Traditional dishes with a summer flavour on the Costa del Sol

 Tags: Leisure

Summer in Malaga has a flavour of the sea. The fried fish, fresh anchovies and skewers of sardines are the kings of the beach bars, although there are many traditional dishes that you can try in summer in any bar or restaurant. Of course, if you feel like it, you can also prepare them yourself. This is how summer tastes on the Costa del Sol.

Porra antequerana (Porra of Antequera)

Porra is one of the star tapas of the summer, a cold soup consisting mainly of tomato, pepper, garlic, bread, vinegar and olive oil. In the province of Malaga, it is served garnished with hard boiled egg, tuna and olive oil and is an essential dish on the Malaga table.

Pescaíto frito (Fried fish)

Produce from the sea shouldn’t be missed during the summer period. On the Costa del Sol, we are experts in serving it fried and it’s eaten mainly in the beach bars.

Espeto de sardinas (Skewer of sardines)

Malaga’s beach landscape would not be the same without the traditional boats on the sand in which the skewers of sardines are grilled. The figure of the “espetero” (person who grills sardines) is part of this tradition and they are the experts in the preparation of the dish. It would be a crime to visit Malaga without trying an espeto.

Pipirrana

Pipirrana is another of the freshest and most healthy dishes of summer cuisine on the Costa del Sol. It’s a salad made of onion, tomato and green pepper dressed with vinegar and olive oil.

Boquerones en vinagre (Fresh anchovies in vinegar)

One of the most typical fish in Malaga is the boquerón (fresh anchovy), a nickname by which the people of Malaga are also known. A simple and delicious way to eat them is marinated in vinegar. A fresh dish that shouldn’t be missed in the summer months.

Ensalada malagueña (Malaga Salad)

A healthy, nutritious and delicious dish. Its main ingredients are boiled potatoes, orange and cod, but spring onions and olives are also added. All this is seasoned with olive oil, vinegar and salt.

And to accompany any of these dishes, we recommend a Moscatel white wine or a very cold beer. Enjoy the tastiest summer on the Costa del Sol!
