Open-air cinemas on the Costa del Sol: under a star-filled sky

 Tags: Leisure

The Costa del Sol is a cinema destination, either for its spectacular film locations, for the love we feel towards the industry or for our exported stars, such as Antonio Banderas. In addition, as a proof of this intense film culture, we have the Malaga Film Festival, which will soon celebrate 20 years of existence: a festival specialising in Spanish cinema.

Thanks to the advantage of its good climate, the Costa del Sol has a wide offer of summer cinemas. Culture and nice weather… A couple with great chemistry!

Summer cinemas in Malaga

The capital of the Costa del Sol is hosting one more year the Open Summer Cinema, with over 121 free screenings in 20 different spaces. This program runs from 24 June to 12 August 2016 and is organised by the Malaga City Council through the Film Festival.

The beaches of the city of Malaga are some of the locations of this program: we can enjoy a film in La Malagueta, La Misericordia and El Dedo (El Palo), but also in the Plaza de la Esperanza (in the neighborhood of Lagunillas) in the Park of San Miguel, in Ciudad Jardín, and in the Russian Museum, among other spaces.

The films are chosen with a range of audiences in  mind, from titles for the young spectator (Sponge Bob, The Minions, Madagascar Penguins...) to science fiction films or blockbusters of Spanish cinema (Interstellar, Jurassic World, El Niño) for others.

Starlite Festival Marbella and a giant outdoor screen

The largest open-air cinema screen in Spain is in the auditorium of Starlite Marbella, a place chosen for the celebration of international premieres and events of global projection.

Do bulls like cinema? The bullring Arena Estepona

In this case, a whole bullring is turned into a magnificent open-air cinema. Enjoying films in the arena can be  a different and exciting experience...

These are just some of the outdoor cinemas that exist on the Costa del Sol, but there are many more. Find out more at your closest summer cinema during your holidays!

Furthermore, films in their original version with subtitles will also be screened. The best way to learn Spanish while taking in the movie!
