European football teams choose Costa del Sol for their training preseason. Refurbished sport facilities, warm weather and a wide hotels offer have made this one of the most attractive destinations for many first league teams from all over the world.
Preseason at Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol has become the football epicentre. Just in January, a total of 63 clubs, some first level clubs, as Borussia Dortmund or PSV Eindhoven, chose the attractive temperature at Costa del Sol for their preseason stages. More than 100 clubs will have come to Málaga by the end of March. 40-50 people usually come together with each of these teams, with players, workers and journalists, who spend an average of 150 € per day, which has an economic impact of 8,4 million euros.
Top cities for the preseason ‘stages’
Marbella, Estepona, Mijas and Torremolinos are the preferred destinations by these teams for their training. All these towns have excellent touristic facilities, able to host complete teams and perfectly connected to the International Airport Málaga Costa del Sol.
Sport Destination
Sport tourism attracts 10,5 million international visitors and 2,5 national visitors to our country, generating an economic impact of 12,000 million euros. Almost two years ago, the brand 'Sport Destination’ was developed by Turismo Costa del Sol, with the objective of promoting the sport sector and unifying under just one brand all the initiatives related to sport tourism.
Leading sport facilities
Costa del Sol has leading sport facilities to host sport trainings, as the Estadio Municipal of Marbella, the Estadio Municipal of San Pedro or the Estadio de Atletismo Ciudad de Málaga. In Torremolinos there is the Villa Deportiva ‘Ciudad de Torremolinos’, place visited by high-level teams and many professionals from different disciplines along the year.
