The six must of a good navigator

 Tags: Nautical

The Costa del Sol has 11 marinas at your disposal that will allow you great navigation experiences. Follow our advice and everything will be perfect. For an  ideal sailing experience without any setbacks, there are at least six instruments with which your vessel must always count on.

Don’t play the adventurous. If  Captain Drake had a pleasure boat these days,  he would never set sail without these musts on his boat:

GPS

It provides our location at every moment, which we can share with the navigation centre for higher safety. It also allows us to trace routes and know the calculation of estimated time to roam around.

VHF Radio

It connects us to the coast station with other vessels. All coastal stations having Medium Wave  and VHF broadcast weather bulletins on the main frequencies of each station, so  we can know what the weather will be like and if it is seaworthy.

Plotter

It is a similar tool to GPS but with more specific identification of the navigation chart with ports, buoys, islands, etc. It also lets you mark your course with waypoints.

Probe

This instrument is essential to ensure that we navigate through areas with an adequate depth. It measures the distance between our keel and the seabed.  Always carry a probe on board and you won’t run aground.

Compass or navigation needle.

It is the compass for the world of sailing. Formerly there was only a magnetic compass, but nowadays you can find electronic or satellite assisted ones. Never lose sight of the north ... or the South, of course.

Sliders

It is a tool for measuring the speed of your boat. As you know, this speed is measured in knots. This is because the first sliders were a knotted rope system with which the sailors used to count the speed of the boat. Keep calm, it’s all digital these days.
