With more than 160 kilometres of coast, 12 marinas and a pleasant climate year-round the Costa del Sol is an excellent destination for sailing aficionados. With a long tradition of sailing, the province of Málaga boasts many different nautical clubs, sailing schools, and all types of competitions and regattas so you can find a way to take part in this king of sea sports 365 days a year.

Sailing schools and competitions year round

The good weather on the Costa del Sol is what makes the year-round official competitions and regattas possible on all types of sailing vessels, such as the Bahía de Málaga Trophy. Each nautical club also has its own sailing school and organises its own competitions.

Amongst the most prominent nautical clubs, the Royal Mediterranean Club of Málaga stands out for being the oldest in Spain. Not only can you sail but you can also enjoy all types of aquatic sports such as rowing and swimming at this club located near the centre of Málaga. The club has its own sailing school for all levels and a latest generation marina for boats up to 15 metres long.

Another well-known club is the Club El Candado, which is more than 50 years old and has 280 moorings and a large sailing school. Throughout the year it organises different workshops and tournaments, the most famous of which is its Regata del Mar de Alborán.

Top-level marinas

The Costa del Sol has more than 4,000 moorings at its 12 marinas. The most unique ones are Puerto Banús in Marbella and the Benalmádena Marina.

The José Banús Marina in Marbella is one of the centres of the vibrant social life in the city. An estimated 4,400,000 people pass through it each year and it boasts over 915 moorings, accommodates boats longer than 50 metres and has a large commercial, restaurant, and leisure area.

On two occasions, the Benalmádena Marina has been awarded the "Best Marina in the World" prize, which is granted by different specialised magazines. It has more than 1,000 moorings and its architectural mix of Arabic, Indian, and Andalusian aesthetics make it especially attractive.

In addition to these two large marinas, there are also others such as the Cabopino Marina, located near Marbella, the Caleta de Vélez Marina, the La Duquesa Marina, near Estepona, the Fuengirola Marina and the  Estepona Marina.

In short, the good climate and the marina facilities on the Costa del Sol let you sail all year long. If you enjoy sailing the high seas, you'll have everything you need in Málaga.
