The beautiful town of Ronda, in Malaga, represents a powerhouse of the Spanish idiosyncrasy, a representative city of culture, tradition and folklore. Bullfighting also finds its purest essence in Ronda. Every September, the Ronda Bullring becomes the stage of one of the most unique events in the province of Malaga: the Goayesque Bullfights.
Can you imagine a painting by Francisco de Goya whose characters come to life? The Goayesque Bullfight is a trip back in time: bullfighters wearing costumes of the eighteenth century versus imposing bulls, all in a monumental bullfight arena from 1785.

“La Corrida Goyesca” is the great event of the Pedro Romero de Ronda Fair, which this year takes place from 6 to 11 September. Bullfighting events begin from Friday 9th, with the opening Goyaesque speech in the Convent of Santo Domingo. On Saturday 10th, the Goyaesque Bullfight takes place and on Sunday, you can enjoy the beautiful Exhibition of Hitches Contest and the Rejones Bullfight of Ronda (where the bullfighter rides a horse).

Throughout its history, the Goyaesque Bullfight has had illustrious guests, such as the filmmaker Orson Welles or the writer Ernest Hemingway. Today, this unique show continues bringing together celebrities and social life.
The Ronda Bullring is one of the oldest in Spain. It is an arena whose monumentality is up to the beauty of a city that captivated both travelers and characters as relevant as Washington Irving, Benjamin Disraeli or Richard Ford.
The first Goyaesque Bullfight took place in the mid of the last century, in order to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Pedro Romero. To this bullfighter is dedicated the fair that bears his name, declared of National Tourist Interest.

Besides the main fight, the show includes an Exhibition of Hitches that is a true spectacle. Two hours before the tournament, carriages and horse carts are responsable for the great concentration outside the Ronda Bullring. Ladies add the folk touch to the event with their elaborate costumes.
The Ronda Bullring is one of the oldest arenas in Spain and is considered to be the cradle of bullfighting. Its museum has pieces of great historical value related to bullfighting. For example, the exceptional set of engravings and lithographs by authors like Goya or British artists Lake Price and Edward Orme.
Pedro Romero Fair begins with a traditional parade, launching fireworks and the lighting of the fairground. For six days, Ronda is immersed in the party, where music, dance and the best food and wine of the Serrania de Ronda never run out.
