Sometimes all we want is to get to a beach where the only sound is the sound of the waves. Nerja is one of the places where you can achieve this, where the beaches can give you that sense of perfect freedom. They are not hard to reach: if you are coming from Malaga you can take the N-340 highway towards Almería and find sparsely populated but fantastic beaches just a few kilometres from the centre of Nerja. They are ideal for disconnecting from your stress and routines, and for getting in tune with your inner self. What more could you want?
Cañuelo beach
This is the last of Nerja's beaches, located in a natural area where there are many cliffs. Unlike the other beaches in the town, this is very large, but like the other, more intimate beaches, it is still not easy to get to, which makes it one of the most tranquil beaches in the province. In summer, you can leave your car in the parking area next to the road and take the public transport which is laid on, because private vehicles are prohibited from going down the mountain side.
Its crystal-clear water make it one of the best for diving and snorkelling, and the sunsets there are said to be among the best.
The Pino coves
These tiny bays with their transparent waters are protected by their vegetation, and are ideal for snorkelling and diving. The irregular terrain make them hard to reach, and as a consequence they are less populated.
Their lack of services, and the fact they can only be accessed on foot means that they are perfect for a day without stress.
The Beach of Alberquillas
This is located in a spectacularly beautiful area of protected natural beauty: The Paraje Natural Acantilados de Maro - Cerro Gordo. It is a nudist beach with a very low density of users, giving it almost the feel of a private beach. A perfect place to enjoy nature in its purest form.
