If you want to raise your game, you should try to add some of the techniques used by top players to your repertoire.
Here are a couple of pointers to improve your swing that are used by today's champions, and who knows, you can become one of them. After reading this, you will leave your opponents with their mouths open.
Perfect Finish
This technique is vital to perfect your swing. The right side of your body should rotate to the left, taking the weight of your body, and your right foot should finish vertically resting on your toes. The finish ends with your knees together, your hips completely turned and your right shoulder facing the target.
The speed of the finish will depend on the club you are using. If you are using a long club and a gentle stroke, the impact will be very weak, whereas a short club and a strong hit will send your ball right out of sight.
The straight-arm pitch
This technique has been used successfully by major players such as Adam Scott, Jason Dufner and Peter Uihlein, but especially the american golder Steve Stricker, so much so that some even refer to this technique as the “Stricker style”.
Keeping wrist action to a minimum, keep your hands and arms extended throughout the stroke. Simply turn your chest away from the target, then twist your body forwards. The movement adds momentum to your arms without working the hand.
Increase your range with the driver
You may think that you can only increase your range by hitting the ball harder, but the opposite is true, because you simply lose balance and tempo with the swing.
To increase your range, you have to ensure that the club hits the ball when it is moving at its fastest. The best way to do this is to use a circular swing that improves the radius of the club as it moves and optimises the angle and speed of the impact.
You can practice these techniques on any of the 70 golf courses on the Costa del Sol.
