A Malaga-style dinner to surprise your guests on New Year's Eve

 Tags: Leisure

2016 is about to end and we want you to start 2017 with the best sensations and, of course, the best taste in your mouth. We propose to surprise your diners with a very original and delicious menu. A menu based on the gastronomy of Malaga. It’s dinner time!

Starters

The first impression is fundamental to the success of a dinner as special as this. You must receive your guests  rising to the occasion with a table of snacks, where the stars will be the products of the Costa del Sol and the elaborations inspired by the cuisine of Malaga, but with an innovative touch.

Imagine these flavours: tempura of Victorian anchovies (the emblematic fish of the capital of the Costa del Sol) accompanied by a green garlic sauce with parsley of Velez Málaga, or thin natural shells with a few droplets of lime from the Axarquia. We could continue with the Jamon Iberico de Castaña del Alto Genal (the best ham in the world combined with a natural diet based on chestnuts), muffins (typical Antequera bread) toasted with ajobacalao (an exquisite blend of cod, garlic, Paprika, bread and oil), or a tartar of pepperoni from Cartama (the pepperoni of this locality is very famous). After this fresh tour through Malaga’s gastronomy, it’s time to taste the main dishes with some ajoblanco shots, as sorbets, (ajoblanco is a cold soup of almonds, bread, oil and garlic) with edible basil flower.

First and second

For the first course we recommend something as traditional as exquisite: a Malaga-style almond soup with fish and seafood with saffron. A perfect dish for such a special dinner. On the Costa del Sol you can choose from a wide variety of fish and seafood but, in this soup, monkfish and prawns should never be missed.

With the main course, Malaga will surprise your diners again with a product of the highest quality, very healthy and superbly cooked: rabbit roasted with sugar cane honey from Frigiliana and mustard. Speechless.

Desserts and grapes

Two options for dessert: succumb to the heady aroma of porridge (a delicious mixture of wheat  flour, milk, anise seeds, fried bread and cinnamon), served in small glasses, or a singular “pastel de zanahoria morá”, an autochthonous carrot cake from the province of Malaga.

And last, but not least, the most anticipated moment of the night: the strokes. With this, you will definitely win your diners over: nothing more and nothing less than 12 Muscat grapes (famous local variety). No one will want the strokes to end! And make a toast to the New Year uncorking a sparkling wine made with this Malaga grape as well. By the way, it combines fantastically with Christmas sweets like the famous “mantecados” ... Happy 2017!
