Frida Kahlo’s artwork fascinates children

 Tags: Culture

There is a wide range of cultural activities in Costa del Sol and Málaga is eventually becoming the museum capital of the country. There are lots of different types of museums, directed towards all sorts of people. You also have many cultural events to enjoy with the family. One good example is the Centre Pompidou Málaga, where the fascinating world of Frida Kahlo is reinterpreted through stimulating activities and interactive games for the smallest family members. Targeted for children within the age group of 5-12, this workshop invites to reflect about the surrealist universe, life and work of the mexican artist.

Frida Kahlo’s artwork

We could think that, for the themes in her painting, her pictorial style or just because of her troubled life story, Frida Kahlo is not an artist suitable for children. However, this becomes possible thanks to the outstanding educational job of Pompidou Centre.

Frida transcended art, being a reference in a level beyond visual arts. Her legacy is constantly being reviewed and she is highly-regarded by many collectives, specially by feminist groups. Even the artist used to think that all her Surrealist paintings full of biographical information, wouldn’t interest anyone, but she ended up dazzling fellow painters like Picasso and succeeding in the most important museums around the world, like the Louvre in Paris.

‘Frida and I’, the exhibition

This production, organised along with the Ministry of Culture of Guerrero (Mexico), comes directly from the Pompidou Centre Paris and it’s been exhibited in cities like Liverpool.

The exhibition and workshop ‘Frida and I’ will be at the Young  Space in Centre Pompidou Málaga until 26 June.
