Torcal de Antequera. This natural environment is the result of a relief shaped during 200 million years. Torcal de Antequera is one of most important karst landscapes in Europe. The limestone rock forming it adopts millions of different shapes being constantly transformed due to the weather acting on it. Many of them has a similar shape to daily objects, that is why they have names like El Tornillo (screw, the most famous) El Sombrerillo (the little hat), El Cáliz (chalice) or El Dado (cube). In this labyrinth of stones and natural figures several routes can be made, where at the same time, you can let your imagination run free trying to guess shapes and figures among the relief.
Caminito del Rey –Los Gaitanes Gorge. Local people from Málaga and visitors count the days, hours to the re-opening of the Caminito del Rey, a hanging walkaway at 100 metres high. It will be at Easter. This pass of almost three kilometres goes through Álora, Antequera and Ardales. It takes its name from King Alfonso XIII, the Spanish King who inaugurated the place. It was built to ease the way of the handymen of the historical Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro (Hydroelectric society of El Chorro) and the supply of materials. As years went by, it became a meeting and linking point of the villages of the area, which made this path part of their way of life.
Júzcar, The Smurfs village. In June 2011, this village located in the Ronda Mountain Range was transformed. Its white and small houses typical of an Andalusian village were coloured in blue, imitating a smurf village. The origin of this change was an idea of a marketing agency which selected this village to be the place of the premier of the film ‘The Smurfs’. Since then, the colour of the sky is also at street in Júcar. Their neighbours thought this new character was shocking and decided to preserve it.
Fuente de Piedra Lagoon. Any synonym of magic and beauty could be suitable to describe this place. It is the biggest lagoon in Andalusia (6.5 kilometres long) and the second most important European space to breed flamingos. The atmosphere turns pink between March and July, period when this species make their nests. There are several points from which you can observe this birds in their natural environment. In addition the space hosts numerous varieties of plants. The Fuente de Piedra village is located a few minutes away and is another interesting alternative to be discovered.
