Festivals: Ojeando, Weekend Beach and Starlite to fill July with music

 Tags: Culture

Would you like to party to the beat of live music singing with your friends until you lose your voice? Fine, come to the Costa del Sol this summer. Thousands of festival goers are looking at Málaga, since they know fun and music are guaranteed in the province in July. Starlite, Ojeando and Weekend Beach are to fill the summer with music.

Starlite Festival (18 July-22 August)

It is different. Even unique, you could say. With star-studded audiences sometimes, Starlite takes place in a wonderful setting during a month of performances by the greatest international artists. The venue? The quarry in Marbella, a natural stage facing the sea and surrounded by lush vegetation.

The history of this festival spans three decades. Its essence can be found in three distinguished figures: Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, Julio Iglesias and Plácido Domingo. In the summer 2015, artists like Lenny Kravitz, Lionel Richie, Melendi, Roger Hodgson, Ana Belén & Víctor Manuel, Mago Pop, Sara Baras & India Martínez and Pitingo will climb onto the stage. In addition, on 24 July Sinatra will be honoured in the year of his 100th birthday.

Ojeando (3-4 July)

This two-day festival is marked by the traditional Andalusian character of Ojén, a town that comes to be seen as a true celebrity for two days. Indie bands and the hipster culture take to the streets, as everything seems to go on out of doors. In fact, the three stages of the festival are set up out in the streets of Ojén.

Well-established artists like Iván Ferreiro, Los Planetas, Lori Meyers, Russian Red, Supersubmarina, Izal, Fuel Fandango or Niños Mutantes performed in past editions. But Ojeando bets on local artists too staging an Andalusian music competition for emerging artists. Actually, it has acted as a springboard for bands like Negroazulado, Hi Corea! and Dolorosa. In 2015, the Festival will draw Guadalupe Plata, Stone Pillow, Sr. Chinarro, Xoel López, Airbag, Perro and El Columpio Asesino, among other leading groups and artists.

Weekend Beach (8-11 July)

Weekenders who attended the festival staged in Torre del Mar in 2014 were witnesses to the birth of Weekend Beach. And since then they have been looking forward to attending the second edition this year. Weekend Beach takes place right across the beach on Costa del Sol. It is not just like any other festival, since it aims at reaching diverse audiences by offering many styles and genres so that all music lovers can enjoy the shows.

We hope the second edition will replicate the phenomenal success of the first. This year, Weekend Beach will welcome a number of big names in the Spanish music scene: Alamedadosoulna, Chambao, El Canijo de Jerez, El Drogas, El Puchero del Hortelano, La Mala Rodríguez, La Pegatina, La Raíz, Macaco and Zahara.
