# Explore Malaga practicing canoeing

Canoeing is a sport that combines health, enjoyment and excitement, as it contributes to muscular and cardiorespiratory strengthening. If you love this activity or want to start practicing it, in Malaga you will find formidable spots to step on a canoe and enjoy nature.

## **Canoeing in La Viñuela**

 If you want to practice canoeing in calm waters, there is nothing better than the **[Embalse de la Viñuela](https://blog.visitacostadelsol.com/en/la-vinuela-lake-a-natural-paradise-of-the-axarquia-malaga)**, in the Axarquia region. It is the marsh with greater capacity of the province of Malaga (170 hm3) and an area of 1,396 acres, is situated in a natural environment that stands out for its beauty. In addition, the place has recreational area, as well as restaurants, campsite and accommodation nearby.

## **Calm waters, rough waters**

 The **Genil river**, natural border of the province of Malaga with Cordoba, offers a great channel that is "open" all year round. Its abundant waters in winter and the Swamp of Iznajar in summer, make possible the practice of this sport the 12 months of the canoeing calendar. In the area near the [San Marcos caves](http://www.visitcostadelsol.com/towns-and-villages/cuevas-de-san-marcos-p9611), you will find a jetty and several [active tourism companies](http://www.visitcostadelsol.com/vita/sports-and-active-tourism/active-tourism-companies).

 The waters of the **Serrania de Ronda** run with serenity or rage depending on the place. Especially exciting are the descents by the waters of the Guadiaro river. Besides, you have the canoeing centre "Vagones de Jimera de Libar", located in the old train station with the same name.

 And of course, a plan we recommend is the **kayak routes along the [cliffs of Maro Cerro-Gordo](http://www.visitcostadelsol.com/things-to-do/maro-cerro-gordo-cliffs-natural-area-p3511)** on the coast of Nerja. A unique maritime landscape of cliffs, caves, waterfalls and coves, such as Maro, known for being one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.

## **The love of canoeing**

Both kayak and canoe are two forms of canoeing. In any of its aspects, it is a sport that helps you to channel energy, and that also develops in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, even if very active. Try it and you’ll see that it is a perfect activity to share with family or friends.

In recent years, there has been a good increase in the number of federation licenses, which means that it is becoming more and more known and that people want to enjoy it during their holidays.
