Discover the Inland Costa del Sol with kids

 Tags: Nature

Exploring new places, enjoying nature and doing some outdoor exercise are great values that hiking provides. A healthy and fun activity that has nothing to do with age, let alone in Malaga. This province has many routes suitable for children that will delight our little adventurers.

Across its nine regions you will find paths of short tour with little difficulty and no danger. Thus, you will discover the natural wonders hidden in these lands in the company of your dear ones  with complete peace of mind. And most importantly: share unforgettable moments with them.

Natural Film Sets

The Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is one of the most fascinating places of Malaga. Although several routes run through it, there are two ideal ones for a trip with children: the Embalses and the Gaitanejo routes. The first owes its name to the vast swamps of the zone and the second reaches the vicinity of the Caminito del Rey.

No less spectacular is the Torcal de Antequera, whose landscape is similar to a city of stone. A film scenery where several productions have actually been shooted, such as the British classic fantasy genre "Clash of the Titans" or the recent series 'Emerald City', which recreats the world of the Wizard of Oz. Two of the five paths enabled in this protected area can be explored comfortably, even carrying pushchairs. One leads to a viewpoint, the Mirador de las Ventanillas, and the other to the Natural Monument of Tornillo del Torcal..

Hiking and ecology

To educate the youngest of the family about the importance of the environment, the Montes de Malaga Natural Park offers a Nature Classroom called Las Contadoras. Alongside these facilities, there are two routes which lead to viewpoints. Also nearby, you will find a museum: the Ecomuseo Lagar de Torrijos.

The Paraje Natural de los Reales de Sierra Bermeja, named for the colour of its rocks of volcanic origin, is definitely worth a visit. One of its routes, known as the Paseo de los Pinsapos, leads to a forest of these singular fir trees. This route is not the easiest one, but the effort will be surely rewarded.

The pinsapo is also present in the Natural Park of Sierra de las Nieves. Several paths cross this declared Biosphere Reserve space. But one particularly advisable route for the youngest members of the family is the one that leads to the Pinsapo Las Escaleretas: a prodigious tree with over 350 years of history.

A paradise in Europe

From the Sierra de Grazalema to the Sierra Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama, through the Natural Park of Los Alcornocales, Malaga offers plenty of places for hiking with children. Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, inhabited by flamingos (the largest colony of the Iberian Peninsula and the second in Europe), valleys crossed by rivers or mountains full of peculiar species await you.
