Autumn arrives at the Costa del Sol fraught with interesting cultural events. Exhibitions, musical entertainment, children's programming and unique festivals complete a varied agenda. Here we highlight some appointments you should not miss.
A destination full of art
The Picasso Museum is hosting a retrospective exhibition of Joaquin Torres-Garcia from 11 October. In addition, the auditorium and the gardens of the gallery dedicated to this Malaga-born genius will be holding jazz concerts, chamber music and poetry readings.
Until 4 December, the Contemporary Art Centre of Malaga displays, for the first time in more than 15 years in Spain, a selection of paintings by David Salle. The American artist presents 32 paintings, whose themes have a strong emotional impact on visitors.
Moreover, the Carmen Thyssen Museum houses an interesting collection of gouaches and drawings by Joaquin Sorolla. The painter shows on paper and cardboard the hustle and bustle of the city, something he witnessed from the window of his room at the Savoy Hotel in New York. About nine works where you can appreciate the passion and Sorolla’s point of view of the nocturnal and urban landscapes. And don’t forget to visit the Chagall exhibition from the Collection of the Russian Museum, St. Petersburg / Malaga.
If you come with children, stop by the Pompidou Centre Malaga. Younger guests can dive into the poetic world of objects through the work of the French-American painter and sculptor Arman.
Opera, musicals and concerts on the Costa del Sol
Are you passionate about opera? Then you're in luck. Lyrical Season, in the Cervantes Theatre in Malaga, shows the recital of Ainhoa Arteta and Jose Bros, on 6 November.
Special mention to the Dance Cycle at the Cervantes Theatre (23 October and 20 December) and the performance of 'The Swan Lake' of the Russian Classical Ballet at the Theatre/Auditorium Felipe VI in Estepona (11 November).
For the youngest members of the family, the Echegaray Theatre in Malaga offers spectacles of all kinds every autumn Sunday: children's plays, presentations with puppets, magic shows and even dance performances.
Special festivities in the province of Malaga
In November, it’s time for the festivities of the Grape Juice in Atajate and Cartajima, the Rabbit Festival in Parauta and the Chanfaina Day (stew) in Totalan.
And in December it is the turn of the Feria de la Chacina (Cold Meat Fair) in Benaojan and the Festival of Rondeles in Casarabonela.
