Christmas events on the Costa del Sol which are too good to miss

 Tags: Leisure

At Christmas the programme of events on the Costa del Sol is full of activities to be enjoyed alone or in the company of family and friends. Many of these activities are also part of charity projects. We'll tell you all about the events that you won't want to miss during your visit to the Spanish province of Málaga this Christmas.

Theatre and shows

In a display of solidarity, the Spanish actor and comedian Dani Rovira returns to his homeland with his charity galas, through which he raises money for different associations and NGOs. This is the fourth edition of the initiative "¿Quieres ayudar conmigo?" (Do you want to help with me?), which this year includes ten comedy performances for the benefit of other organisations in Málaga. In "Improviciados" the Spanish actors Clara Lago and Rafa Villena also appear. All performances will take place at the Alameda Theatre between 10 and 21 December.

There will also be several zambombas, for children and adults alike, at the Echegaray Theatre in Málaga, between 15 and 26 December. And at the Cervantes Theatre, theatre, music and dance are all centred on the Christmas season, with shows such as Swan Lake (28 December), The acrobatic nutcracker (29 December), Johann Strauss, the great New Year concert (2 January) and the ballet of the Russian Army of St. Petersburg (6 January).

Christmas Markets

If you want to go Christmas shopping, the Costa del Sol's Christmas markets are a great option to find original gifts. A traditional market is that located on the Paseo del Parque in Málaga. In Marbella there are different Christmas markets, such as the one located on the Marbella Marina, which takes place each Sunday in December.

Nativity Scenes

A visit to the Nativity scenes during the Christmas season is a must. In Málaga the City Council has published a Nativity Scene Guide with the 67 most important scenes to visit this Christmas. This directory includes several routes distributed in seven of the city's districts.

In Antequera you can also visit one of the most original nativity scenes in the province of Málaga. The scene has been recreated with more than 2,500 Playmobil figures. It is also a charitable Nativity scene which helps to raise money for different groups, and therefore entry has a token price of 2 euros.

Another of the most well-known scenes which is worth visiting at Christmas is the Living Nativity Scene in Almayate, the theatre performance with the longest history and tradition on the Costa del Sol. It takes place on 1 and 2 January from 18:00 in the afternoon.

Three Kings' Parade

At Christmas, there are also a wide variety of activities on offer for the youngest members of the family, bringing together entertainment, fun and magic. The traditional Three Kings' Parade on 5 January is the most anticipated day of the year. Each municipality holds its own procession of floats, although the Málaga parade is one of the most spectacular.
