On the Costa del Sol we celebrate Andalusia Day on 28 February! As you can imagine, commemorative acts take place in several venues in the province of Málaga. We'd like to invite you to an especially unique one that takes place in a charming little town nestling in the mountains of the Sierra de las Nieves, one of Málaga's large natural landscapes. We're talking about the Festival of the Soup of Seven Branches is celebrated in El Burgo. This event has been declared a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest.
The towns of this part of the province of Málaga have a special flavour. It's certainly worth visiting them at any time, as many of them are located in biosphere reserves. The Sierra de las Nieves rises above a hill surrounded by mountains covered with forests of holm oaks, Spanish firs and pine trees. But this event is especially tasty. It gets its name from the town's emblematic dish.
Typical Andalusian Cuisine
The dish's curious name is due to the main ingredients used to prepare it: tomato, pepper, onion, garlic, bread, potato and wild "triguero" asparagus. One special feature of its preparation, similar to that of other traditional soups, is the use of spearmint.
Visitors can take advantage of free tastings. It's cooked with great care on stoves by residents of the town, as tradition dictates, while live music and a festive atmosphere fill the streets. Traditional confectionery of the town and the region is also handed out during the event. This is prepared in wood-fired ovens, and includes roscos de vino, cubiletes, empanadillas, mantecados, tortas de aceite and the popular alfajor de El Burgo, of Arab origin.
El Burgo: pure, unadulterated nature at less than one hour from Málaga
