The shore of Málaga is a window to the world. A balcony to the sea where you can spend hours watching the horizon of the Mediterranean Sea. To its ports hundreds of vessels arrive each year, thousands with passengers. During some hours they enjoy Costa del Sol, its weather, its streets and monuments. But they go beyond. This is so because of the wonderful geographical location of the city, just in the middle of the province, allowing visitors to visit other attractive areas.
Frigiliana, classic Andalusian village
Frigiliana (49 minutes by car) is very close to Nerja. A classic Andalusian village whose attraction has been multiplied to infinite: it has been awarded several times as the most beautiful village in Andalusia. It worths its fame: this location is ideal to switch off your mobile phone and let your senses flow with the typical sounds of rural life, the flowers in the balconies and the white façades reflecting the sunlight. We highlight the Festival de las Tres Culturas (Three Cultures Festival) celebrated in August, being a plus of light, colour and happiness.
Antequera
Antequera (47 minutes by car). Peñón de los Enamorados leads this city whose architectural heritage is wide and admirable, formed by fifty civil and religious buildings. The first Renaissance building in Andalusia stands out: Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor. The old Islamic Medina is still in this city, due to the fact that it watches and protects the so-called ‘heart’ of the region. And talking about natural architecture, few minutes away we can find the Torcal, a sublime environment that represents one of the most incredible Karst formations in Europe.
Ronda, city of the Tajo River
Ronda (1 hour 27 minutes by car). It is sure you have seen it in a picture, but it worths to watch it once and again. The so-called ‘city of the Tajo River’ is almost on the edge of a cliff made by the Guadalevín River saved by the called New Bridge. It is simply spectacular. A landscape of a postcard. But the views are not the only thing to admire in this city. The same as in Antequera, it has a standing-out architectural heritage, being remarkable the bullring and the Main Church. We recommend to visit Reservatauro Ronda, a pastureland where you can live first-hand the breed of wild bulls and the Spanish Pedigree horses.
Nerja
Nerja (45 minutes by car) has become in a first level tourist area. This location became internationally famous after filming ‘Verano Azul’ (blue summer), a legendary serial of the 80s. But the thousands of visitors visiting its streets every year want something else. Inside the borders of the village, located between the sea and the mountain, the Balcony of Europe offers a beautiful and really inspiring panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea. We recommend to visit Nerja Cave, an authentic historical and natural treasure, and the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs, a wild environment where you can explore caves, dive or simply enjoy the waves against the rocks.
