Sports activity is beneficial in recovering from cardiovascular diseases. Any dynamic exercise involving low-intensity repetitive movement will help you, above all, to improve the circulation of your cardiovascular system. It also helps to prevent these kinds of pathologies. On the Costa del Sol you can take part in many activities that will enable you to have a healthier heart. Find out how, and where.
Running and walking (hiking)
The parks and the streets are full of people running and walking. And we still wonder why? Running and going for a walk both improve your cardiovascular system. If you are an "urbanite" you can do these activities in the city. One very attractive circuit that you can do is to follow the Coastal Path. The province of Málaga has almost 200 kilometres of coastline and in urban areas you can take advantage of well-preserved seafront promenades to do exercise by the sea.
But if you are nature lovers and you prefer to get away from the city, there are even more possibilities. In Málaga you can find the Gran Senda (Great Path), a 35-stage route that goes all around the province. Along each of the stages you can discover beautiful landscapes and unique spots that are hidden away in each of the municipalities the route passes through.
The Sierra de las Nieves - in the mountain range known as La Serranía de Ronda - or the La Viñuela Reservoir, in the Axarquía region, are other places where there are a number of walking trails. We cannot forget the Caminito del Rey with its seven-kilometre route along a hanging walkway, where you can enjoy a full day's hiking.
Rowing
Water sports are also beneficial for your heart, especially if you are the "motor" propelling the craft or vessel. At many beaches on the Costa del Sol you can hire boats to enjoy a peaceful trip on the Mediterranean Sea. Málaga has at least a dozen large marinas where it is also possible to partake in different water sports and activities.
If you are looking for something more active, one alternative is to get to a river and go kayaking or canoeing. Ardales, Guadalmar, Ronda, Cuevas Bajas and Cómpeta are some of the places where you can find these kinds of activities. If you are looking for something more tranquil, you can move in leisurely fashion on a paddle surfboard.
Bicycle
Among the most-recommended sports for improving your cardiovascular system is cycling, as it can be done as a long-duration low-intensity activity. It doesn't matter if you don't have a bike. You can hire one from any of the multi-adventure companies, which will also show you different routes where you can have fun cycling.
You can also use Málaga's public bicycle service for any everyday activity. Your body will thank you and you can enjoy yourself to your heart's content!
