The Torcal de Antequera Natural Area is one of the most impressive karstic landscapes in Europe. This natural park is located 12 kilometres from Antequera and, in addition to the spectacular rock formations, it is home to a wide variety of fauna including a large colony of invertebrates and birds, and almost 700 different species of vegetation. From its Mirador de las Ventanillas viewpoint, you can see an impressive view of Málaga, and on clear days you can even make out Africa.
You can either visit it on your own or sign up for one of the several activities held there such as hiking trails, photographic safaris, or nocturnal star-gazing visits.
Labyrinth trail at dusk
On this trail you'll discover the hidden corners and least frequented areas in Torcal. This trail is a hike between the narrow passageways of the 'Karstic Labyrinth' where you can see sinkholes, surrealistically shaped rock figures in the distance, the wildlife of the region and an abundance of plants and flowers. All of this plus local guides who are specialised in the karstic landscape.
Cave trail
After a trail above ground, you can descend to an underground path seeing that El Torcal hides an extensive network of underground passages, chasms, and caves below the ground, all of which make up this labyrinth. With the help of an expert guide, you can go inside some of these caves and have a unique adventure.
Nights that awaken your senses
"Nights that awaken your senses" is the name of one of the most popular activities in this natural setting on the Costa del Sol. It starts with the Ammonite Trail, where you'll see the natural monument of the Tornillo as well as many others. After hiking this trail, on which you'll always be accompanied by a guide, you can sample a meal made from regional products on the terrace of the Torcal Alto Restaurant, located in the centre of the Torcal de Antequera. To top off the evening, you'll conclude this activity with a star-gazing session in which you'll learn to recognise the main constellations, planets, and stars with the help of an expert astronomer.
Nocturnal photographic safari
This almost 5-hour activity will cover the most hidden corners of Torcal and with the help of a guide, you'll be able to take photos of rare figures, the starry sky, or the impressive backlight effects at sunset.
In short, the wide variety of unique activities that the Torcal de Antequera has to offer will leave its visitors open-mouthed in awe of the unusual beauty of this landscape.
