Benalmádena Marina, an architectural gem on the Costa del Sol

 Tags: Nautical

Therefore, to talk about Benalmádena Marina is to talk about one of Europe's most important maritime architectural gems. Its elegant docks, houses, leisure offer and great atmosphere, which can be experienced 365 days a year, are all part of one of the most important places on the Costa del Sol.

One of the most interesting aspects of Puerto Marina, as it is known locally, is its architectural design, which combines Arabic, Indian and, of course, Andalusian construction styles. The pioneer in this type of marina layout, combining styles from different cultures, was the architect Eduardo Oria, along with the civil engineer Jaime Dioni.

Another distinctive aspect of the striking architecture found at Puerto Marina are the islands of houses: blocks of houses rising up from the sea, as if they magically emerge and float on the water. These houses are facing the marina, and since they were built in 1995 they have become a type of unique construction characteristic of the Costa del Sol.

Benalmadena Marina

There is not a dull moment at Benalmádena Marina. There is a year-round leisure and cultural offer thanks to the shops and shopping centres found on land at the marina. You can also enjoy activities such as sporting events, sport fishing competitions and water activities organised by the actual marina. There are also places for the whole family to enjoy. One such example is the Sea Life aquarium, where you can have a close-up experience of the secrets that lie below the sea.

Benalmádena Marina has space to berth over 1,000 vessels and is able to receive boats of up to 35 metres in length. Furthermore, it has a prime location on the Costa del Sol: next to the commuter train station, only 10 minutes from Málaga airport and only 30 minutes from Málaga by motorway.

The growth and achievements obtained by the marina since its inauguration in 1982 have led to it winning the award for the best marina in the world on two occasions. Furthermore, since 1987 it has continuously boasted the European blue flag, a distinctive sign of the quality of its facilities and the cleanliness of its waters. Each year the marina holds an ecological day, bringing together several dozen divers to clean the depths of its waters.

Throughout its history the marina has continuously improved, it has computerised its facilities, it has incorporated improved security measures and there are already plans for expansion in the future.
