Three accessible museums to visit in Málaga

 Tags: Culture

In the last few years, Málaga has undergone a huge cultural and touristic transformation, making it the highlight of many cultural tours. The city’s cultural offering includes the accessible tourism segment. Tourism without barriers is beginning to become a reality in the capital of the Costa del Sol and many of the 36 museums in its historic centre are easily accessible. Today we are focusing on three of them…

Centro Pompidou

On the Paseo del Palmeral, in the well-known open-air shopping centre Muelle Uno, is the Centro Pompidou Málaga, a modern building that offers people with reduced mobility various services to make their visit easier, with ramps, lifts and adapted lavatories.

It also caters for visually impaired people with ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, a specially designed guided tour of its permanent collection of contemporary art, and free audio guides. There is a whole area for children too.

Interactive Museum of Music

Málaga’s Interactive Museum of Music (MIMMA), situated in the Conde las Navas Palace, contains almost 1,000 pieces, of which 400 are part of the permanent collection.

Accessibility plays a key role throughout the building. As well as providing access for people with reduced mobility, by removing architectural barriers and offering ramps and lifts, the whole museum is equipped with touch screens and sensory experiences. Although it is aimed mainly at children, the museum is open to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in this little musical universe.

Picasso Museum

The Picasso Museum is located in the historic centre of Málaga, in the Buenavista Palace. One of its key values is making art more accessible and it offers a comprehensive programme that is suitable for any audience.

It organises participative visits throughout the year, artistic production workshops and interactive activities for groups with special needs.
