In the 12th century, the Almoravid dynasty added their own legacy to the castle by building a defensive structure adapted to the sloping terrain. However, it was in 1485 that the castle’s history took a significant turn when it was occupied by the Christian army. From then on, the castle was witness to an architectural transformation, adapting to the necessary changes and challenges of each era it stood through.

Throughout the years, Sohail Castle has been destroyed and rebuilt more than once, carrying with it the marks of a turbulent past. Stone and masonry fuse together to create a structure that resists the passing of time. From its ancient walls you can enjoy impressive panoramic views that span from the mouth of river Fuengirola to the Mediterranean sea and Sierra de Mijas, which dominates the horizon.
