Haiko Dana gives advice to experienced golfers: how to correct an extreme push-hook

 Tags: Golf

If you play golf regularly, you must be somewhat familiar with the famous push-hook when it’s time to hit the ball. Does your ball ever go too far right and is very closed? Don’t worry! Discover how to correct the excess push-hook (the error of hitting with the club face closer and from the inside out) with tips from Haiko Dana and prepare to show off your skills at Costa del Golf

What is the push-hook?

Push-hook is one of the most common errors between expert players and professionals. It's a defect or common error in the swing that makes the direction of the swing point noticeably towards the right. This can be due to a combination of factors, ranging from swing plane to clubface position or the grip or finesse of the backswing.

The push-hook is one example of a common error, although there are many others that affect experienced players. It is reflected in the form of a hook, so to avoid an eventual and potential pre push-hook, start by taking care of your grip. Don't grip the club too tightly; lightness and technique, believe it or not, can take you further than strength in golf. In the end, gripping the club with more force than necessary stiffens the stance and has consequences for your swing. It can cause the shot to twist and the ball to spin undesirably.

Watch your Backswing: Pumping on the Push

The above advice brings us directly to the backswing. As pro Haiko Dana explains in one of his videos, the push-hook can be prevented by paying proper attention to the swing movement. Specifically, there is a practice, known as a pumping drill, that will help you fix your swing to avoid this common hook that some players have been known to experience.

The pumping drill starts at the top of the backswing and consists of repeating a fast swing mode on several occasions until the dynamics are fixed in the movement itself. The objective is none other than to assimilate the correct swing movement so that in successive strokes it comes naturally and automatically, avoiding blocks and incorrect positions that lead to the hook. It will also help you grip the centre of the shaft with your right hand. Repeat this exercise with the downswing and you will see that the shot will be more in line with less wrist activation.
