Run by Turespaña, Travel Safe is a new tool designed to keep international travellers up-to-date with COVID-19 travel restrictions in Spain. The website aims to inform visitors that Spain, and the Costa del Sol in particular, are safe destinations for all sorts of getaways. Scroll down to find out more about the project.
Spain, a safe destination
The Travel Safe Spain website brings together information about the restrictions in place in different parts of Spain so that travellers can understand the picture across the country at a glance. There are also a number of guides available for different destinations, categories and products.
Spain was a pioneer in laying out COVID-safe protocols for conferences and events. Europe has since adopted most of these. Travel Safe Spain aims to help travellers plan their trip to Spain, make the experience as safe as possible and provide crucial information related to restrictions, testing, quarantine periods and other preventive measures you should bear in mind before, during and after your getaway.
The website is available in Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese and German. Travel Safe. Travel Again is designed to promote Spain as a safe destination, rebuild trust in travel and make Spain a leader in safe travel. The initiative launched in December 2020 and will remain in place until international travel has normalised once again.
The English version of the Travel Safe website contains three sections, namely: how can you travel safely?; what sort of trip are you going on?; and are you travelling to Spain?. The first section provides general information about transport, hotels, shops, restaurants and more. The second focuses on the type of trip you are going on, whether that be beach, nature, urban, snow or golf. And the third gives recommendations for before, during and after your trip to Spain. There is also an interactive map and, on the Spanish version of the site, a number of guides.
What’s in the guides
The Secretary of State for Tourism, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, has put together a number of guides laying out ways to limit the spread of SARS-COV-2 in the tourism sector. These contain guidelines for service, cleaning and disinfection, as well as managing risks in different sub-sectors of the tourist industry. Please note that these guides are only available on the Spanish version of the website.
Safe travel is back
With the end of COVID-19 restrictions in Spain, tourism has returned to the country and particularly, the Costa del Sol. Low infection rates combined with recent safety measures have helped generate renewed trust among international travellers who are once again holidaying in the province of Malaga. In recent months, 74% more tourists travelled to the Costa del Sol, a figure showing that tourism and safety are compatible in the COVID-19 landscape.
