The tourist industry is constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of consumers and the sector climate. This January at Feria Internacional del Turismo (FITUR), tourist companies presented the innovations that the industry will see over the coming years. Technology and sustainability were the cornerstones of these new ideas. In this post, we’re going to take a look at some of the trends that are set to be the next big thing. Keep reading to discover more.
The tourist industry is becoming increasingly mindful of the environment and the impact the industry is having on our planet. One of the most interesting companies in this regard is Resuinsa, a textile brand that has created a sustainable cycle that uses recycled and recyclable materials such as to decrease waste production.
Another example is Daikin’s VRV system which uses a heat pump to provide both heating and air conditioning while producing “free” hot water by recovering heat from the unit. And then there is the “mirror TV”, which, as its name suggests, is a television that looks like a mirror. The touch screen TV enables users to order food, book services and view their expenses.
The robot receptionist
Smart tourism is another emerging sector trend. The Alicante-based company Bumerania Robotic presented Temi, a robot that acts as a receptionist. Temi has various functionalities: not only can it check guests into the hotel with facial recognition, it can also detect whether guests are happy with their stay or not, order room service, book a taxi and call the lift.
No more keys or keycards
Bumerania Robotic have also come up with a solution that enables hotels to do away with keys and keycards, and thus preventing theft. Facial recognition technology enables guests access to their room. For added security, the technology can also generate a unique QR code that will let guests into their room.
Sustainability
Another trend that is dominating the tourist industry is sustainability. Iberia is a good example of this. The airline is committed to becoming more sustainable as its 2022 goal demonstrates: to use more sustainable fuels. Simultaneously, the company is working on initiatives to reduce the impact of their operations and design more efficient aircraft.
As you can see, the tourist industry is constantly reinventing itself. There are all sorts of innovations and trends that are set to make waves in 2022. And what seems certain, particularly in the Costa del Sol, is that after years of uncertainty caused by the pandemic, the sector is back on track and making a great recovery.
