 Tags: family

Just imagine: fine sand beaches, a hot day under a swaying palm, water sports, relaxing activities and plenty of ways to entertain you and your loved ones just steps from the Mediterranean Sea. That’s life in Torremolinos! Located just 10 kilometres from Malaga capital, this destination is a true paradise for those who love a little family fun in the sun. Read below for our favourite beaches to visit with kids in Torremolinos.

La Carihuela Beach

La Carihuela Beach is the longest, most iconic beach in Torremolinos. Just 18 kilometres outside the centre of Malaga capital, this beach spans 2,100 metres in length and 40 metres in average width—from Bajondillo Beach all the way to Benalmádena Marina. Hang out here and you’ll find a calm tide, tons of restaurants and beach bars nearby (so you can try the area’s famous fried fish!), relaxing areas covered in palm trees and places to rent hammocks and water sports equipment. La Carihuela Beach is a great place for adults and children alike.

Bajondillo Beach

More centrally located in Torremolinos, between La Carihuela and Playamar beaches, Bajondillo Beach is undoubtedly the busiest beach in Torremolinos. Spanning 1,000 metres long and 40 metres wide, it’s known for its good location, easy access, dark sand and moderate tide. Go during the summer and take advantage of its restaurants, water sports kiosks (like pedal boat vendors!) and hammock rental services. El Paseo Marítimo del Bajondillo, a top spot for family fun, is also nearby.

Playamar Beach

About 18 kilometres from Malaga city centre, between Los Álamos and Bajondillo beaches, Playamar Beach spans 1,000 metres long and 50 metres wide. Also known as “Retiro Beach,” it has dark sand, moderate waves and great conditions for enjoying water sports like sailing, paddle surfing and scuba diving. If you’d rather stay on land, there’s plenty to do there—we recommend playing beach volleyball at one of its public courts or renting a hammock and swaying the day away. When it’s really hot outside, the area is packed with covered shows and indoor activities that are perfect for little ones.

Los Álamos Beach

Los Álamos Beach borders Malaga capital and is thought to be one of the liveliest beaches in Costa del Sol. Spanning 1,500 metres in length and 60 metres in average width, it has golden sand, moderate waves and great conditions to take advantage of sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing with your family.

In 2004, a new, modern promenade was added to Los Álamos Beach with plenty of seating areas and manicured gardens. If you’re there with kids, you can rent pedal boats, jet skis or banana floats! Want to relax while your kids play? Sign your little ones up for teacher-led water activities while you grab a drink at one of the area’s numerous beach clubs, like Kokun Ocean Club, La Playa Summer Club, Palapa Beach Club or Nuevo & Sur Beach Club.

Much more than a beach: what to see in Torremolinos with children

The most popular place to take your kids in Torremolinos is Aqualandit’s the largest water park in Costa del Sol! This waterpark has special areas just for kids, a huge wave pool, adrenaline-pumping rides, garden areas with hammocks and a great restaurant. If you love nature and exotic animals, head to another theme park: Cocodrilos Park. Spanning 16,000 square metres in size, this interesting destination is home to more than 200 animals and prehistoric objects.

It should come as no surprise that sports are popular here. If you want to be on the water, try paddle surfing, kayaking or snorkelling. If you want to stay on land, play golf, paddle tennis or “gymkhanas!” Miguel Ángel Jiménez Golf Academy even has a children's golf school for kids ages four and older. At El Ranchito Riding Club, children six years and older can take horseback riding lessons.

In addition to those, there are plenty of other corners of Torremolinos worth visiting with children. Pimentel Tower, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, was built by Nasrids around the year 1300 and is located in the defensive towers of the old kingdom of Granada. Casa de Los Navajas, a residential palace with an interior inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, sits right by the Mediterranean Sea. Of course, you can’t visit the area without going to the famous Battery Park, which has over 74,000 square metres of impressive gardens to explore on foot or by bike. Finally, Molino de Inca houses an impressive botanical garden where you can relax, see hundreds of plant species and enjoy the benefits of Mother Nature.
