Valderrama Masters: a tournament hosted at one of the most legendary courses in the world

 Tags: Golf

The Estrella Damm NA Andalucía Masters, also known as the Valderrama Masters, has been part of the European Tour Race to Dubai since 2010. Named an “event of exceptional public interest” by the Spanish government, the event will bring together some of the very best players in the world from the 14 to the 17 October, thanks to the work of Estrella Damm, the Andalusia tourist board, the European Tour and Real Club Valderrama.

The world number one, Jon Rahm, will be at the event, as well as the recent winner of the Open de España (held at Club de Campo Villa in Madrid), Rafa Cabrera-Belloserá. The Andalucía Valderrama Masters is the final tournament to be contested on European soil this season, as the circuit then moves to China for the WGC-HSBC Champions and the Volvo China Open before hopping over to Dubai to bring the calendar to a close with the DP World Tour Championship, the grand final of the European Tour.

In the previous edition of the Valderrama Masters, John Catlin was victorious, competing against a world-class group of rivals, headed by Martin Kaymer, winner of two majors and former world number one. Catlin secured his title as winner of the tournament, which had no audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but which was an all-round success.

The Volvo Masters, Ryder Cup, American Express Championship, Open de España and Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters are just some of the tournaments that Real Club Valderrama has hosted over the course of its forty plus years of history. Valderrama is one of the most famous courses in European golf and considered the best in continental Europe. Some of the finest golfers in history have played this spectacular cork oak estate which has borne witness to some of the greatest victories, dramas, glories and tensions in golf, such as Tiger Wood’s victory at the WGC in 1999.

Among many great events, Real Club Valderrama Golf hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997, an event that - with Europe’s victory with Seve Ballesteros as captain - secured the host’s reputation as a legendary course.

Located in Sotogrande, in the province of Cádiz, Real Club Valderrama is a course for golf lovers. The 6,500m course has 18 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1985. Valderrama has one of the best maintenance programmes in the world, as well as practice areas and an exclusive members-only clubhouse (visitors do not have access). The clubhouse boasts many services, including a store, restaurant and elegant relaxation area.
