Ronda has already greeted Christmas with the switching on of its Christmas lights in the Plaza de España and with transfer of the Three Kings’ crowns. The town has also announced that it will be organising no fewer than thirty activities.

These include:

  • 8th December Flamenco Christmas concert with Davinia Jaén, in the Plaza del Socorro at 6pm.
  • 9th December Flamenco Christmas carols with the Reyes family, in the Plaza del Socorro at 6pm.
  • 17th December Show “Entre bambalinas” (Behind the scenes), “Salvar la Navidad 2” (Save Christmas 2), at the Teatro Vicente Espinel.
  • 23rd December Parades, from Avenida Martínez Astein to the Plaza Teniente Arce.
  • 26th December Show “El lago de los cisnes” (Swan Lake), at the Teatro Vicente Espinel.
  • 30th December Christmas village, in the Plaza Teniente Arce.

If you decide to visit Antequera at Christmas, you will feel at home. In addition to tasting its delicious mantecados, a sweet crumbly type of shortbread served at Christmas here, you can take part in any number of wonderful activities.

  • From 2nd December to 7th January. Exhibition “Binesburg. Victorian City”, “Clicks are cinematic” and “Christmas from the Nativity”.
  • From 1 December to 5 January. Nativity Scene
  • From 1st to 29th December. Photography exhibition “Musical Encounters”.
  • From 24th November to 28th January. Exhibition “The Hidden Museum”.
  • 9th December Playmobil workshops in the Plaza San Agustín.
  • 10th December Flamenco Festivities, outside the Iglesia de la Trinidad church.
  • 15th December Playmobil Christmas and Nightmare Before Christmas Mobile, at the Casa de la Juventud.
  • 16th December Christmas Concert Escolanía de los Palacios, Iglesia de San Francisco church.
  • 17th December Theatre performance “Hijo del hombre” (Son of Man), Iglesia del Carmen church.
  • 23rd December XXV Flamenco Christmas. Flamenco Christmas Concert, Plaza del Coso Viejo.
  • 27th and 28th December. Christmas Passage, in the Casa de la Juventud.

These are just some of the activities you can enjoy in Antequera, but you will find many more lined up in its Christmas programme.

In addition to the places mentioned above, there are also other villages with plenty of Christmas charm and romanticism that are worth a visit.

  • Casares: another option for your Christmas celebrations. Its festive lights, flamenco choirs, Christmas market, sports activities, live nativity scene and much more besides will make this time of year even more special.
  • Nerja: this town also has its Christmas programme ready to go, with more than 60 activities! Known as the Balcony of Europe, Nerja will switch on its Christmas lights on 9th December. On 17th December, a live nativity scene will be unveiled. You can also visit its Christmas market, and on 23rd December, there will be a Father Christmas parade, etc.
  • Vélez-Málaga: It offers a wide variety of activities, including concerts, processions, ice skating, flamenco Christmas concerts, hot chocolate stands, and, of course, the traditional parade.
  • Monda: There’s plenty of exciting festive fun here as well, with recreational and cultural activities available for all ages. Some of the highlights are: flamenco Christmas concert with Sondaire, flamenco dance contest, trips for young people, pastoral concert and a flamenco Christmas concert with Ismael Rueda, among others.
