Housed in what used to be Santo Domingo convent, Ronda Conference Centre (also known as Palacio de Congresos de Ronda) is a venue for mid-sized events with capacity for up to 200 guests. The beautiful spaces of the old religious building have been renovated, equipping them with everything an event planner could wish for. Boasting breathtaking vistas over Tajo de Ronda, the centre is ideal for holding conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, exhibitions or other similar events. We interviewed Remedios Ruiz, tourism coordinator at Turismo de Ronda S.A, to discover everything there is to know about this unique venue.

In which year was Ronda Conference Centre founded and how has it evolved over the years?

Ronda Conference Centre opened its doors in 2008 to offer clients a mid-sized venue where events, exhibitions, conferences and meetings can be held. Over the years, the venue has evolved, adopting the latest technological advances such as to fulfil the requirements of the events taking place here.

What are the venue’s main features?

Ronda Conference Centre is housed in what used to be Santo Domingo convent, a beautiful building constructed by the Catholic kings in the wake of the town’s conquest in 1485. It was built by the Dominican Order and dedicated to San Pedro Mártir.

The centre sits just to the side of the Tajo, close to Puente Nuevo, which is the most iconic sight in the town. Located in the heart of the historic centre and close to the shopping area, it is also just steps from the many hotels and restaurants in the town and a good base to start any activities running parallel to the main event. The centre’s rooms have been equipped for gatherings of between 10 and 250 people, boasting versatile spaces that can be tailored to the requirements of a specific event.

What type of events are held at the centre?

The centre is suitable for all sorts of events, namely conferences, conventions, meetings, presentations, exhibitions, forums, seminars, courses, press conferences, gala dinners and even concerts.

Of the many events that have been held here, do you remember one in particular?

An event that got great media coverage was the launch event for Gran Turismo 6. Sony chose Santo Domingo Convent as the venue for the international launch of the Playstation game. Given that 2013 marked the 15th anniversary of the game and that GT6 was the latest big PS3 game, it was a landmark day. The designer of the game, Kazunori Yamauchi attended this important launch.

Why do your clients choose Ronda Conference Centre for their event?

With its excellent location close to Puente Nuevo and the Tajo, the beautiful cloister defined by its delicate columns complete with Corinthian capitals and the Gothic-Mudejar church which is now an event space, Santo Domingo convent is an excellent event venue in Ronda. The service and assistance provided by Turismo de Ronda is also excellent. The team is committed to offering attentive, flexible and efficient service such as to make every event a resounding success.
