There’s only one thing more exciting than a tournament of the calibre of Open de España de Golf Femenino 2022, and that’s the moment when, after several days spent holding your breath, you find out the final results. In the latest edition of the Spanish Women’s Open, it was Swedish player Caroline Hedwall who walked away with victory after defeating the Swiss player Morgana Metraux in a tie-break. It is Hedwall’s seventh win since her first trophy in 2018.
But it’s not all about coming first. Proving this is the veritable star of the tournament, Spanish player Cayetana Fernández, who at the age of just 17, came in an impressive and well-deserved fifth position. Fernández was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best golfer in the competition, playing a quality game in each and every day of the Open de España Femenino. Her level of play has also seen her become the first winner of the Celia Barquín prize for the best amateur player in the tournament.
