Born in 1964, Miguel Ángel Jiménez is considered the best malagueño golf player of all time. Popularly known as “el pisha”, he took up golf at a young age. When he was just 15, he worked as a caddie and ball collector on the driving range. He turned pro in the year 1982 after seeing Severiano Ballesteros, his idol, play. Over the course of his career, he claimed twenty-nine victories in different tours, twenty-one of these on the European Tour and the final eight on the PGA Tour Champions. 2014 was a year of triumphs with wins in Hong Kong, Spain and his debut in the Champions Tour in the United States. His namesake academy is considered one of the best practice courses. As well as playing an active role in the design of this course, Jiménez has also designed other courses in the Costa del Golf, including Gualdalhorce Club de Golf, a 18-hole par-72 course.
