Lauro Golf, the perfect course for your family’s golfing debut

 Tags: Golf

Located in the municipality of Alhaurín de la Torre, and just a 25-minute drive from Malaga-Costa del Sol airport, Lauro Golf is one of the best courses in the Costa del Golf. It has a total of 27 holes that can be played in combinations of 9 holes for a total par of 72 (over 18 holes). If one thing defines Lauro Golf, it’s that it cares about the environment. Not only did the designers choose to safeguard the centennial holm oaks that were already on the site, but they also planted thousands of young endemic trees to create a leafy landscape.

Lauro Golf is bursting with plants and wildlife. Wherever you are - whether it be on the course, in the resort or simply taking a stroll - you’re sure to see animals like rabbits, ducks, partridges, herons and even eagles flying overhead.

Hosting around 50 competitions a year, Lauro Golf is a technical course that requires concentration and skill. The fairways are relatively flat, making it a good course to walk around, though there are two holes on the foothills of the mountain that afford exceptional views over Guadalhorce valley.

Lauro Golf Academy is on a mission to make you fall in love with the game. The instructors - of course - will teach you how to improve your swing, choose the right club and lower your scorecard; but all this is secondary. The most important thing is to learn how to enjoy the game. Catering to everyone from children to veteran players, the academy offers private lessons, group ‘clinics’ and the option to have a pro accompany you around the course. The goal is always two-fold: to help you improve your game and show you how to enjoy it.

Some of the greatest Spanish - and Andalusian - champions have come out of Lauro Golf and represented Spain at international events. A whole generation of players that know the best thing about the sport is the ability to enjoy it and the most important lesson you will learn at the academy regardless of your level of play or age.

A course designed by Folco Nardi

Folco Nardi made Lauro Golf a course that is technical, though not difficult. To achieve a low scorecard, players will have to concentrate and be careful when it comes to choosing the right club. The final 9 holes, holes 19 to 27, designed by Mariano Benítez, continue the theme of the first 18, requiring golfers to harness their skill throughout the course.

The clubhouse is housed in an old Andalusian building, Cortijo el Paredón. The facilities here are superb with an excellent restaurant, changing rooms, shop and office. And that’s not all. There’s also a pool, padel academy, stables and bowls lawn. The highlight of the clubhouse, nevertheless, is the patio that sits in the shade of a centennial ficus tree; the perfect place to relax after a round.
