Another win to add to the list. Malagueña Ana Peláez, who turned pro in 2021, recently won the Comunidad de Madrid Ladies Open, making her one of the promising names on the Ladies European Tour Golf Leaderboard. Running from February to November this year, the women’s tour has a new - and powerful - competitor for the next two and a half years.
Skillful play at Club de Golf Jarama-RACE
A combination of technique, intelligence, heart and cool-headedness is key to success in golf. Which is exactly what Ana Peláez demonstrated on the fairways of Club de Golf Jarama-RACE in Madrid. Competing against Linnea Ström, a Swedish player who has some years experience playing professionally, Peláez kept cool at all times and played some excellent shots.
Luck may have been on her side - an undeniable factor in any sport - but her skills were also most definitely on display too. Her play was excellent from start to finish, with four birdies (one under par) and an eagle (two under par) more than sufficient proof of her domination of the game. Peláez may only be in her first year as a professional golfer, but winning the Madrid tournament opens the doors of the LET to her for the next thirty months.

Taking on the LET Tour and beyond
Peláez is now treading a path that she couldn’t last year, when she was not on the Ladies European Tour Golf Leaderboard and unable to treat the world of Spanish golf to her incredible play. Since Carlota Ciganda’s win at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, there have been no Spanish victories to celebrate.
The upcoming events in Peláez’ tournament calendar might just include the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, which will be held in November 2022, and perhaps even the Solheim Cup 2023, which will be hosted at Finca Cortesín. Currently in 10th position out of over 150 in the LET Race to Costa del Sol, Peláez has certainly got what it takes to be a successful player.
In the space of a few short months, Peláez turned her successful amateur career (with six wins to her name) and an invitation to take part in the Ladies European Tour to life on the professional tour. In the wake of her strong performance at Aramco Team Series at La Reserva and her recent victory in Madrid, there is no doubt that Ana Peláez is a world-class golfer who is set to do great things for the Spanish game.
A flag bearer for the Costa del Golf
Ana Peláez is a flag bearer for the Costa del Golf, and not just because she was born in the area. Consciously or unconsciously, wherever she goes, she brings the Costa del Sol with her. The Costa del Sol logo was even on her polo when she won the Comunidad de Madrid Open and made a name for herself on the Ladies European Tour Golf Leaderboard.

Ana Peláez’ win brings her closer to the US Ladies PGA Leaderboard (whose card she’s got her sights set on) and highlights the importance of early training in players’ professional development. The Costa del Sol is not only home to world-class courses and facilities, but also the spirit needed to forge the next generations of Spanish golfers. So what are you waiting for?
