The chiringuitos or beach bars of the Costa del Sol are a meeting point for the thousands who visit us. Who would not like to sample some fried fish beside the beach, or enjoy a drink next to the sea? The Malaga coastline is sprinkled with beach bars for all tastes. Discover the best areas to enjoy the charms of these emblematic features of the Costa del Sol.
Malaga, promenade of the three Antonios
There is a great number of beach-side bars along the promenade of the three Antonios (Machado, Molina and Banderas), which runs from La Misericordia to Huelin. During a leisurely stroll along the new promenade of the western part of Malaga, you can enjoy classic beach bars offering fried fish and espetos (barbecued sardines on bamboo skewers). Then there are modern premises which are transformed into drinks-only bars in the evening, where music and a chill-out atmosphere can be enjoyed.
Torremolinos, La Carihuela beach
In Torremolinos, the birthplace of sun and beach tourism, La Carihuela beach is renowned for its offer of beach bars. This is one of the most famous and frequented beaches in Spain, a former fishermen's quarter and now an important tourist area. It is not so important which beach bar you visit, just the fact that is associated with La Carihuela. The residents say that they have the secret for making the best fried fish, and with good reason.
Los Álamos and Marbella
Los Álamos beach, in Torremolinos, and the Marbella coastline are known for their bars right beside the beach: modern beach bars that, unlike in other tourist areas of the province, are more geared to leisure and entertainment. In these bars, there is no shortage of music and a great atmosphere to fill the summer evenings and nights.
Torre del Mar
If the hustle and bustle prevails in Torremolinos and Marbella, Torre del Mar is something else, a peaceful place where one can breathe tranquillity in the atmosphere. Its beach bars are mainly family restaurants where you can enjoy a good meal and a fantastic day at the beach.
El Palo and Pedregalejo
El Palo and Pedregalejo are two Malaga neighbourhoods right beside the beach, where the fried fish or pescaíto frito culture is in the blood of the inhabitants. The seafront of the whole area offers visitors a row of traditional and more modern beach bars, which provide a perfect complement to the tourist attractions of both neighbourhoods. It is possible to distinguish the more classical gastronomic environment of El Palo, where servings of fish and typical local dishes take priority, from the atmosphere of Pedregalejo, somewhat more modern, where fried fish, gin & tonic and Lebanese beds combine.
