Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga is housed in Palacio de Villalón, a handsome 16th century building located in the heart of Malaga’s historic centre. The museum boasts an impressive permanent collection of 19th century Spanish - and particularly Andalusian - art, regularly puts on temporary exhibitions and runs a programme of cultural and educational activities. But beyond this, Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga is also an excellent event venue. We interviewed Javier Ferrer Morató, the museum’s Managing Director, to find out about Carmen Thyssen’s event potential.
In which year was Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga founded and how has the museum evolved over the years?
The museum opened in March 2011. From the moment we opened its doors, we realised that Palacio de Villalón’s history and artistry would make it a unique place to host events. Nowadays, it is an exclusive venue for public and private corporate events and we host on 100 events on average a year.
What are the venue’s main features?
Together the Carmen Thyssen collection, exhibition programme and elegant architecture of Palacio de Villalón create a very special event venue. The museum is also centrally located, just 50m from Plaza de la Constitución, and boasts a professional and friendly events team. There are two event spaces namely Patio de Columnas (capacity for 180) and a small auditorium (capacity for 80).
What type of events are held at the museum?
Principally we host product launches, conference openings, business events, award ceremonies, gala dinners, cocktail parties, talks and lectures, press conferences, networking sessions, book presentations, theatre shows, musicals, flamenco, poetry and more.
Of the many events that have been held here, do you remember one in particular?
The set up for the events organised by Samsung and Rolex was simply spectacular. A talented team of experts tailored our unique venue to the needs of the respective brands.
