Also known as Andalucía Golf Challenge, the tour pays homage to Andalusia with the 29 tournaments comprising the championship (28 tournaments plus the grand final) held in different Andalusian provinces, namely Malaga, Seville, Cádiz, Almería and Granada.
The Costa del Sol will host most of the tournaments. Twenty two tournaments, to be precise, will be contested in courses throughout the Costa del Golf. Want to discover some of the highlights of the challenge? Here’s a selection (the full programme is available on the Andalucía Golf Challenge website):
- The tournament hosted at Atalaya Golf in Estepona on the 13 May.
- The tournament hosted at Mijas Golf in Mijas on the 8 June.
- The tournament hosted at Santa Clara Marbella on the 18 June.
- The tournaments hosted on the 28 and 29 June at Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande in San Roque.
- The tournament hosted at Finca Cortesín, one of the best courses in Europe, on the 27 August.
- The Grand Final, which will be hosted at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links, is sure to be an extraordinary event that you won’t want to miss.
Fundación Real Madrid golf tour
One of the five tournaments in the tour will be hosted at Mijas Golf on the 21 September. Organised by Fundación Real Madrid, the charity event is not only raising money for a number of charities but also promises plenty of excitement. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Los Lagos is one of the best-known courses in the Costa del Sol. Don’t miss it.
Now in its second edition, Ávoris has been dubbed “the tour of the year” by many players. Twelve tournaments will be contested throughout Spain, with three coming to the Costa del Sol: Estepona Golf on the 25 June, San Roque Club on the 31 July and Río Real on the 6 August. The winners of each of the tournaments go straight through to the Grand Final in Cancún to contest a Ryder Cup-style tournament between north Spain and south Spain. Compete to see if you can get a place on the south Spain team.
Torneo Ruta21 is a summer classic. The tournament scheduled for the 15 August will be the 9th edition and the 4th consecutive event to be hosted at Mijas Golf. The relaxed tournament promises plenty of excitement and challenges, making it an excellent day out with friends.
Amateur Ladies Tour Challenge in Malaga
Next on our list is another tournament that you won’t want to miss if you’re a golf lover, particularly if you enjoy supporting the women’s game. The Amateur Ladies Tour Challenge is Malaga city’s golf tournament par excellence. If you’re looking to attend a tournament in Malaga at a world-class course, this is it.
La Cañada Club de Golf will bear witness to this pair’s competition, played with Fourball Stableford, on the 21 June 2022 (starting at midday). If you want to be there, put the date in your diary and come along to enjoy some great golf plus savour delicious local dishes served in the course restaurant. This is one of the golf tournaments in the Costa del Sol that you’ll want to be at.
Ladies Open Days
Enjoying the golf facilities and the wonders of Marbella are just some of the reasons motivating players to take part in Ladies Open Days 2022. Running from May to June, the event is for both new and more experienced players and seeks to discover players with potential while everyone has a whole lot of fun.
Of all the golf tournaments in Andalusia, this is perhaps the most inclusive as its ultimate aim is for all players to have a good time and share their experiences. If you’re keen to spend a couple of days doing something a little bit different with all the family, check out the Marbella Golf Club (the course where it will be hosted) website. You can expect all sorts of surprises, a welcome pack and special guest coach Abbey Gittings at the final event.
