The Andalusian horse (Pure Spanish Breed) is one of the most splendid, noble and beautiful animals in the world. And you can really enjoy riding one on the Costa del Sol, which is a paradise of fantastic contrasts. The province of Málaga gives you the opportunity to ride a horse along a beach, follow a route through the mountains, ride along trails passing through wooded areas, or enjoy a gentle breeze and swaying palm trees on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
You'll find numerous equestrian centres distributed throughout the province of Málaga. You can learn to ride a horse at these, and also acquaint yourself with classical dressage, the Iberian riding technique known as doma clásica, and the so-called high school dressage (doma de alta escuela). One of the great things about equestrian art is that it’s something that both children and adults can enjoy. And some of these centres also offer classes and activities with ponies.
As well as the horse riding classes, these centres give you the chance to thoroughly enjoy your contact with horses with surprising and breathtaking events and shows. The El Ranchito Club (Torremolinos) has been putting on a show called Ritmo a caballo for the last 23 years, which is based on various numbers that demonstrate equestrian art, Andalusian folklore, work in the country, the popular song form known as copla and toreo de salón (fictitious bullfighting).
Artequus is another of the equestrian centres that puts on shows which demonstrate Andalusian equestrian art, and is located in Alhaurín de la Torre. Its show, also called Artequus, combines lighting, photography and special effects to create a magical performance where actors, dancers, trapeze artists and horses act out a story in harmony and complicity.
However, if what you’re looking for is to be in direct contact with the animal, enjoy nature and leave civilisation and the hustle and bustle of the city behind, your best option would be to ride along a horseback route. All of these centres offer horse riding activities. No previous experience is required. And you will be accompanied by a monitor the whole time.
Wherever you’re from. And wherever you are. You'll always have an equestrian centre nearby on the Costa del Sol.
