Buy fair trade this Christmas

 Tags: Culture

Christmas is a time of year when our shopping lists are long and our trolleys are full. But what if it was possible to practise responsible consumption by purchasing food, home and cosmetic products that help change the lives of thousands of people? In the city of Málaga, there are various fair trade shops which prove that sustainability and consumption can go together.  We highly recommend checking them out!

Intermón Oxfam Shop

If you’re passing Granada Street, a well-known tourist spot in the historic centre of Málaga which is very close to some of the main museums and places of interest, you absolutely must pop into the Intermón Oxfam Shop, an NGO committed to commercial exchanges that promote responsible consumption. All the products on sale use sustainable raw materials, promote ecological farming and are guaranteed to have been produced without labour exploitation, among many other factors.

Here you can buy organic cotton clothing, food products that have been cultivated according to environmental sustainability criteria, or cosmetics with a natural base.

Merkaético El Cenacho

Also in the capital, although somewhat further from the historic centre, is a shop called Merkaético El Cenacho. It’s actually a non-profit cooperative which aims to encourage the values of local business. With this objective in mind, they have created a space in which artisans and local farmers can find a market for their products.

If you would like to visit, you can purchase food, drink, crafts and even parapharmacy products… And you will certainly find some Christmas gift inspiration too!

Veganized

Buying 100% ecological clothing is possible in Málaga. Veganized is a project established by a couple with two daughters. They decided to open a shop in the centre of the city and sell vegan, ecological, sustainable and fair trade clothing and accessories.

All the garments are free from chemical or toxic elements and are made exclusively from ecological materials. They also promote recycling and choose manufacturers who don’t use animal fats, additives or colourings. It’s the most ecological alternative for your Christmas gift shopping in Málaga.
