Some big names in the world of golf, such as local player Azahara Muñoz, have already confirmed that they will be taking part in this edition of the Ladies Open de España. After giving birth to her first child in February 2022, the Andalusian golfer, who won the 2016 and 2017 editions of the tournament, is back training and competing. Once again, this year, she will make a bid for the title in the place she was born and trained to go pro. Nevertheless, Azahara won’t be the only local on the course. Laura Gómez, Noemí Jiménez and rising star Ana Peláez will also all be doing their utmost to win the tournament. In 2021, Spanish player Carlota Ciganda, who was born in Pamplona, was the best scoring player. That same year Thai player Atthaya Thitikul topped the ranking. In 2020, Danish player  Emily Kristine Pederson won both the tournament and the Race to Costa del Sol.

Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España is sponsored by Consejería de Turismo, Junta de Andalucía, the Costa del Sol tourist board, Acosol and Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental. €650,000 will be awarded at the tournament, as well as an additional €250,000 for the top three players in the yearly ranking.

Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2022 is part of the Solheim Cup 2023 programme, which has been listed an Event of Exceptional Public Interest. The Villa Padierna resort hosted the Open de España at its Flamingos Golf course back in 2010 (an edition which saw English player Laura Davies walk away with the victory), making 2022 the second time it is hosting the tournament.

Villa Padierna Golf Club Alferini is one of three courses at Villa Padierna Golf Club, a one-of-a-kind resort in Europe. Alongside Flamingos Golf and Tramores Golf, the Alferini course is a favourite among golfers who make their way to the Costa del Sol in search of the local golfing culture. 6,641m in length, the 18-hole course has a par of 73. There are four tees for each hole. Located close to the sea and verdant mountains, Alferini Golf Club boasts spectacular scenery as well as technical challenges. It is, therefore, a great course for large tournaments as well as relaxed days on the fairways where you can while away the hours in the embrace of mother nature and the tranquillity of the setting.
