Take a luxurious golf trip to Costa del Sol

 Tags: Golf

A luxury trip to Costa del Sol should have everything you could want and more: an exclusive hotel, stunning mountain or sea views, delicious cuisine and a spa with a hydrothermal circuit and relaxing massages. For the ultimate experience, why not add a little golf to your indulgence? Use our tips below to plan the perfect luxury golf escape to the southern coast of Spain.

Step one: play golf on some of the world’s best courses

For golf fans, simply playing a round of golf on the Costa del Golf is a luxury. The first golf course ever built in Andalusia was Real Club de Campo, which was built in 1925 and now goes by the name of Parador de Golf de Málaga. Since that day, a love for the sport has only grown in the province, and Costa del Sol currently has the highest concentration of golf courses (there are over 70!) in all of Europe.

Many golf courses in the region were created by renowned golf architects. One such course is Valderrama, which was the work of Robert Trent Jones and earned nods as being "the best course in continental Europe.” Famous golfers, like Malaga-born Miguel Ángel Jiménez, have also added to Costa del Sol’s fame as a top golf destination.

Some parts of Costa del Sol are packed with golf courses, and those areas have earned their own acclaim. Take “Golf Valley,” for example; it’s a part of Spain surrounding Mijas and Alhaurín de la Torre that’s strewn with 12 golf courses. Golf tournaments for all skill levels are held in this region. Some of the most well-known golf clubs in Golf Valley are Villa Padierna Golf Club (a beautiful club with three courses and a luxury hotel) and Torrequebrada Golf Club (a club built by famous Malaga golf course designer, Pepe Gancedo, with several lakes and stunning sea views).

Step two: stay at the best luxury hotels

Take the Finca Cortesin Hotel (located between Marbella and Sotogrande), for example, which was recognized as one of the top 50 hotels in the world and comes with an 18-hole golf course and an incredible 2200 square-meter spa. Another top option, the Kempinski Hotel Bahía (Estepona), has direct beach access, top restaurants, a spa and three outdoor pools, and is very close to one of the best golf clubs in Costa del Sol. The Los Monteros Hotel (Marbella) is one of the most traditional properties in the region. Within its unique surroundings, guests are invited to rest, unwind, relax and take advantage of amenities like a thermal spa circuit, a first-rate golf club and more.

Finally, the icing on the cake: Get some extra pampering

The key to any luxury trip is, above all, to feel pampered. Doing so can have innumerable effects on our self esteem. Treat yourself to a relaxing beauty treatment at a wellness resort or spa, go on a sunset boat ride, pop a bottle of champagne at a fancy beach club, dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant or spend an afternoon shopping through the exclusive jewellers and boutiques of Puerto Banús (which many consider "a shopper’s paradise"). Luxury means something different to everyone, and in Costa del Sol, everyone will find it.
