The best suggestions to celebrate World Tourism Day in Malaga

 Tags: Culture

World Tourism Day is being held on 27 September, a special occasion that we invite you to celebrate in the capital of the Costa del Sol. In honour of this day, most of Malaga’s museums and monuments will offer free admission and you can enjoy activities and guided tours. A perfect opportunity to take a cultural tour through the city and learn about its main places of interest. We’ll give you some ideas.

A tour of the museums of Malaga

Taking advantage of the fact that the museums are holding a free admission day, you can visit a few, learn about their collections and enjoy some of their interesting temporary exhibitions. One possible stop is the Pompidou, where you’ll find works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Renée Magritte. You will also be able to see the work of the designer Philippe Starck, whose temporary exhibition has been extended until 1 October. Free admission is also being offered if you visit the Picasso Museum, the Carmen Thyssen Museum or the Collection of the Russian Museum
of St. Petersburg / Malaga
.

And if you want to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the work of Malaga’s artists, we recommend you visit the Revello de Toro Museum, the Jorge Rando Museum and the Museum of Malaga, housed in the Palacio de la Aduana (Customs House). Three authentic jewels that are sure to impress you.

Tour of Malaga’s Monuments

If you want to learn about Malaga’s history, we suggest a tour that will enable you to travel through time. You can start by visiting the Roman Theatre and Interpretation Centre, then transport yourself to Muslim Malaga through a visit to the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro Castle, built in the 14th century to protect the Alcazaba and the city. Finally, you can visit the Basílica de la Victoria, one of Malaga’s most iconic churches, constructed on the site where the Reyes Católicos (Catholic Monarchs) camped during the siege of the city during the Reconquest.

Tour of Malaga’s Brotherhoods

Visiting the brotherhood house of a cofradía (brotherhood) is highly recommended if you want to find out about one of the most genuine aspects of the local culture. The Museums of the Cofradía del Santo Sepulcro (Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre), the Cofradía de los Estudiantes (Brotherhood of the Students), the Cofradía de la Expiración (Brotherhood of the Expiration) and the Archicofradía de la Esperanza (Senior Brotherhood of Hope) are some of those you can visit on this day.

These are just some of our suggestions, but there are many other places and opportunities to enjoy this special day. Happy World Tourism Day!
