 Tags: Leisure

The most eagerly awaited moment of the summer, if not the whole year, is fast approaching! Yes, we’re talking about the Malaga Fair, a festival which you can experience in the Costa del Sol’s capital in a very special way. Whether you’re already familiar with it or if this is the first time you’ve been, it will come in handy to know about the most important events of the 2017 Fair. Live music, bullfighting events, activities for kids... At the Malaga Fair there is fun to be had for all and right through the day. So let's get started!

Inaugural proclamation by “Lamari” and fireworks

"Lamari", the vocalist with Malaga group Chambao, will be responsible for inaugurating the Malaga Fair with the traditional proclamation. The artist mixes flamenco with chill out to produce a unique musical style. The event takes place on the Playa de la Malagueta beach, starting at 11.50 p.m. Once the inauguration is over, there will be a firework display and a concert by the group Chambao to get the fair off to a start with a great rhythm.

The daytime fair starts on Saturday 12 at 10 a.m with a floral offering to the Virgen of the Victoria, patroness of Malaga, and a host of floats, horses and pilgrims departing from the City of Malaga.

Live music: let the party begin!

During the daytime the fair will be brought to life by various Malaga bands performing in the main streets of the historical city centre. Alba Molina, Money Makers, Free Soul Band, Mr Proper, Grupo Merced and Tocata Cover will be there to get everyone dancing. On a daily basis you can see these and other bands in various town squares including Plaza de la Constitution, Uncibay, Mitjana, Las Flores, Bishop and San Pedro de Alcántara, between 1 and 6 p.m in the afternoon.

In the evening, at the Cortijo de Torres Municipal Auditorium, you can enjoy performances by various artists such as Danza Invisible, Soraya and David Bustamante, amongst others. This is the perfect occasion to enjoy live music by local artists.

If you want to enjoy the most traditional music, at the Real Cortijo de Torres there are marquees with flamenco, copla and verdiales styles of music, where artists and local groups perform, and there is traditional dancing, tapas dishes and, above all, loads of fun.

Fun for the kids

There are also places for the kids to have fun at the Malaga Fair. In Calle Alcazabilla there will be games, workshops, storytelling, street-theatre, puppet shows and many more surprises from 12p.m to 3.30 p.m daily. Also in the Real, at sunset, kids will be able to enjoy the "Festival of Magic” in the Municipal Children's Marquee.

Bullfighting events at La Malagueta

Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta is another of the focal points in the evenings during The Malaga Fair. This year it will be visited by bullfighters such as Francisco Rivera Ordóñez "Paquirri", Jose Maria Manzanares, Cayetano, Juan Jose Padilla, El Fandi, amongst others. There will also be horse-drawn carriage competitions and horse riding exhibitions. One of the most important events is the Picassiana bullfight, in which bullfighters Javier Conde and Enrique Ponce will take part this year.

The Sea Fair at Muelle Uno

Muelle Uno offers a very attractive alternative for those seeking a more relaxing experience at the Fair. Here they are holding the Sea Fair, which this year will feature performances by local artists such as El Kanka or Dry Martina. A unique opportunity to enjoy the excellent atmosphere on their terraces, and from where to contemplate the best views of the city.
