Dive in Maro-Cerro Gordo

A new world is discovered underwater. Being used to leave on earth, the human being marvels with the flora, fauna and underwater landscapes. Scuba diving lovers have in Maro-Cerro Gordo natural environment a beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy this activity. The area is located close to Nerja. It is a hidden space to escape from massive tourism and relax in the sun, between plants and fish having the sound of the waves as the only sound.

Maro beach is 500 metres long and a minimum occupancy all the year. Its only access in only available for pedestrians, far away from roads, so few people decide to go into nature to enjoy this beautiful landscape. The onshore area is rich on minerals and plants.

If we go into the underwater world, we will discover one of the few Posidonia meadows, a sea plant of the Mediterranean. Corals, sponges and Maiden fish and sunfish are also visible.

 

Underwater caves

This beach hides great secrets. As an example we have the underwater caves that can be visit in the cliffs. Diving in them is recommended only to advanced divers. To access, in some points of the visit a light and a knowledge of cave diving is necessary.

Sifón Cave is ease to locate. On the cutting-edge rocks of the Cliff being bath by the sea, pointed by a rock formation in V shape, we can find the entrance. The opening is quite wide, with 15 metres in width and 15 metres high. The diving time can be up to 50 minutes if all the path is made.

Practising this activity requires to ask for a permission of the Andalusian Government, although there are several specialized companies which will made all the paperwork and provide the necessary equipment to go into the depths of the Mediterranean Sea. Discovering the magic of our sea has been never so easy.
