An autumn full of art on the Costa del Sol

 Tags: Culture

The Costa del Sol’s autumn cultural calendar is full of opportunities. New temporary exhibitions are arriving at the museums, the theatres are offering dance cycles, film festivals, jazz festivals and all kinds of shows. Numerous suggestions that we’ll summarize for you below. Don’t miss out!

Exhibitions

Most of Malaga’s museums are opening temporary exhibitions during the next couple of months. One of them is Malaga’s Picasso Museum, where the exhibition “Somos plenamente libres. Las mujeres artistas y el surrealismo” (We are completely free. Female artists and surrealism), a journey through the work of 20th century female artists such as Eileen Agar, Frida Kahlo and Dora Maar, is running from 10 October.

The collection of the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg in Malaga is currently hosting an interesting exhibition: Alexei y Andreas Jawlensky, la aventura del color (The adventure of colour), while the Pompidou Centre will feature the work of French artist Daniel Buren. For its part, the Carmen Thyssen Museum is offering an exhibition about the cubist artist Juan Gris.

Music and Dance

One of the events is the Dance Cycle being held from 3 to 24 October to mark the 80th anniversary of Picasso’s Guernica. The 31st International Jazz Festival (8-13 November) is another outstanding musical event. In addition, every weekend you can enjoy concerts and musical shows.

Theatre

Malaga province’s theatres present their new autumn programming. You’ll be able to attend first-class shows performed on the stages in Malaga city as well as on those of the municipalities. In Malaga, the Cervantes, Echegaray and Alameda are some of the Theatres with full programmes of shows. Notable elsewhere are the Felipe VI Auditorium in Estepona, the Ciudad de Marbella Theatre in Marbella and the Carmen Theatre in Vélez-Málaga. All of them have interesting offerings for the new season.

Cinema

The seventh art also has a starring role thanks to the International Festival of French Film, a tribute to French cinema organized by Malaga’s Alliance Française. Another outstanding event is the University of Malaga’s Festival of Fantasy Film, which is being held this year from 8 to 16 November.
